Does Acupuncture help with adenomyosis?
Short answer is yes, as long as we can nail your diagnosis.
Adenomyosis is a chronic condition where the tissue that lines the uterus grows into and within the muscular wall of the uterus, this can make the uterus bulky looking.
It is often but not always associated with endometriosis, and can cause painful heavy periods, chronic painful uterus, irregular cycles and sometimes pain in intercourse.
According to TCM theory, adenomyosis is often associated with blood stagnaton in the uterus, as well as possibly heat or sometimes cold. The trick is, to figure out which one applies to you. When we do this, we understand your diagnosis, follow the rules of that diagnosis, and then we can make a clear plan.
Pain Relief:
Here in clinic we use Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help ease pelvic pain associated with adenomyosis.
We will also help you figure out diet and lifestyle techniques to move qi and blood. To give you tips at home that will help.
Regulating Menstrual Cycles:
Irregularity can be caused by stagnation, or heat or cold, which one are you? Knowing this change how you are treated. If there is cold we always want to warm, (we do this with herbal medicine, moxabustion, diet) if there is heat we cool down (in much the same way) and of course its important to move the blood stagnation.
Herbal formulations can be tailored to the individual which can help regulate menstrual cycles, reduce heavy bleeding.
Reducing Inflammation
Adenomyosis is an autoimmune problem. Many autoimmune issues look like inflammation, or heat, and the herbs used in TCM can help reduce inflammation in the uterus and surrounding tissues.
Think of herbs such as Bai Shao (Paeonia lactiflora) and Yi Mu Cao (Leonurus japonicus) which are amazing at this.
Stress Reduction
Stress can exacerbate adenomyosis symptoms. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and mind-body practices like Tai Chi and Qigong can help reduce stress levels and promote relaxation, which may improve overall well-being and symptom management.
So although adenomyosis may sound scary, if we can figure out what your diagnosis is we can set up a plan for you.
