Do you have a low thyroid? what can we do about it?
Did you know your thyroid plays a big role in your ability to conceive?
This tiny gland in your neck helps regulate hormones that control ovulation, menstrual cycles, and sperm health.
When your thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism)
or overactive (hyperthyroidism), it can throw your whole reproductive system out of balance.
Ovulation
If your thyroid is out of balance, it can stop your ovaries from releasing an egg each month.
No ovulation
Menstrual Cycle
Hypothyroidism (underactive): Your periods may become irregular, heavier, or sometimes you might not ovulate at all.
Hyperthyroidism (overactive): Periods can become very light, really short, or happen too often.
Implantation
The thyroid also affects the lining of your uterus. If it’s not healthy and thick enough, it can make it harder for a fertilized egg to stick.
Autoimmune Links
Conditions like Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease (autoimmune thyroid issues) are more common in people with fertility struggles. Thyroid antibodies can also interfere with conception.
